DATE: Victorian, c.1900

A wonderful antique brooch depicting a peacock, with it's wings spread, revealing it's gorgeous coloured wings, in this case, diamonds, ruby and demantoid garnets. The stones display excellent colour- sparkly and bright- and it's crafted in 18k yellow gold, with alternating silver and gold settings. With an additional safety chain, it' dates from the turn of the century, circa 1900.

The peacock has been associated with beauty, royalty, and dignity for centuries, and in ancient Greece, the bird was even considered a symbol of Hera, the goddess of marriage and childbirth.
