A cool and collectable gold rush charm, in reference to the the great gold rushes of the late 19th century in South Africa, Australia and USA. It modelled as a little shovel with a miniature gold nugget on the end of the shovel, which to me looks like a little heart! It's crafted in 15k yellow gold and dates from the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
These pieces were typically produced during the great gold rushes of the late 19th century. They were mostly made in Birmingham, then shipped out to the gold-mining areas. Gold miners liked to show off their new-found wealth, and one of these charms for a wife or girl-friend was a must. Who couldn't use a bit more love and wealth in life?
