Victorian "Auld Lang Syne" Locket

$700.00

Description

DATE: Victorian, c.1890

Auld Lang Syne is a song written by Robert Burns in the 1780s, and today has become an anthem sung at New Year. The phrase 'auld lang syne' roughly translates as "for old times sake", and the song is all about preserving old friendships and looking back over the events of the year. It is sung all over the world, evoking a sense of belonging, fellowship and nostalgia.

This charming antique locket dates from the late Victorian period, circa 1890. It's beautifully textured, with "Auld Lang Syne" in blue enamel on the front, and scroll detailing on the back. It's crafted in 9k gold and opens to reveal a locket compartment, to add something of your own. Maybe an image of an old loved on or friend "for old times sake".
