DATE: WW2, c.1945

A War Medal awarded to full-time personnel of the Armed Forces of the British Commonwealth for service during the Second World War, plus a few categories of civilians (war correspondents and civil air transport crews who flew in operational theatres). The obverse depicts a lion trampling a monster with an eagle head and a snake head, and the scaly body, tail, and claws of a dragon, while the reverse displays a portrait of King George VI and the legend: 'GEORGIVS VI D : G : BR : OMN : REX ET INDIAE IMP :'.
