DATE: Victorian, c.1880

This cute Victorian charm is modelled as a hare holding a little flag. Crafted entirely in 15k gold, the hare features fine stokes of fur, striking ruby eyes and long pointy ears. Over it's shoulder, it holds a sapphire and rose cut diamond set flag, possibly symbolising luck and self protection. Hares and rabbits were often depicted with flags in ancient Chinese history, as it was said that it would protect those who were born in the Year of the Rabbit... Although it does remind me of something you'd see in Alice in Wonderland.
