Victorian French Amethyst Love Token Spinner Fob Pendant
Victorian French Amethyst Love Token Spinner Fob Pendant
$2,300.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1840
A fine French antique spinner fob set with an amethyst, carved on all three sides. One face features the name "Katherine", and on the other side, the words "Va Ou Je Voudrais Etre". The third side features the words "C'est moi". Put together, it loosely translates to something like.... "Katherine, I wish it was me" or "go where I would like to be". Maybe given to someone as a love token, knowing that "Katherine" doesn't love them back. There's something quite sad about this, but also sweet at the same time.
The amethyst spins within a gold frame that’s loops around at the top with a snake motif. It dates from the early Victorian period, circa 1840.
Historically, the serpent has been a great symbol of fertility, and, through the shedding of their skin, represent re-birth, immortality, and healing.
