19th Century Carved Jade Dragon & Poppy Pendant
$1,150.00
Description
DATE: Jade Panel, c.1820 - Gold Pendant Mount, c.1920
Stunning jade panel carved to depict a writhing dragon and opium poppy - dating from early 19th century China and mounted in a simple 18k gold pendant frame (some time during the 1920s/30s). After the Qing court was dissolved in 1912, many articles ended up in the USA and Europe, and were incorporated into new pieces of jewellery such as this one. By the 1920s, Western design houses began introducing carved jade, coral, lapis, amethyst, and other semi-precious stones into their designs meaning that articles such as this one, although stylistically they're far from being Deco, have become associated with this movement.
