DATE: Mid-Century, c.1950

Mini medical bag charm with handle, medical cross symbol and hand hammered textured finish, designed to imitate leather. Stamped with makers mark Danecraft and sterling on the bottom, circa 1950. 

This particular bag shows similarities to the 'The Gladstone Bag', which was first manufactured by J G Beard at his leather shop in central London. The bag was crafted in leather with metal frames and at the time, J G Beard was an admirer of Prime Minister William Gladstone, so much he named his bag after him. 
By the end of the 19th Century, the Gladstone bag was used by doctors to carry their medical equipment.
