Art Deco Shagreen Sapphire Cabochon Case
Art Deco Shagreen Sapphire Cabochon Case
$1,250.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c.1920
This fantastic shagreen case dates from the Art Deco period, circa 1920, and made by Appay Paris. Shagreen, characterised by its pebbly texture is traditionally made from the skin of sharks, stingrays, or dogfish. Popular during the 1920's, it was considered a luxury and was used on objects such as this case.
Set with a lovely sapphire cabochon "button", the shagreen displays a grey/blue colour in contrast. On the inside, it features the initials of "DD" and "MM", I'm guessing to who this belonged to. I wonder what they used it for? You can store matches, cards, photographs or anything you wish! With French marks, its modelled in silver gilt.
