Victorian 18k Gold Lucky Bean Charm

Victorian 18k Gold Lucky Bean Charm

$500.00

Description

DATE: Victorian, c.1890

Gorgeous Victorian Lucky Bean charm/pendant dating from the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1890. It's crafted in 18 karat gold, and has taken on a most attractive antique patina. Lucky beans were popular throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras, allegedly inspired by the "sea beans" that would occasionally wash up on European beaches after travelling on Ocean currents from far more exotic lands. The fact they could still germinate after (potentially) many years at sea suggested that they must be infused with powerful good luck... and it's even said that these mysterious seafaring seeds inspired Christopher Columbus to set off in search of strange new worlds (for better or for worse...).
