Edwardian Silver Multi Ring Box
Edwardian Silver Multi Ring Box
$800.00
Description
DATE: Edwardian, c.1906
The most incredible antique multi ring box....... it dates from the Edwardian period, circa 1906 with English hallmarks for Chester assay office. Inside is a navy blue velvet interior, that can accommodate five individual rings. It remains in great condition, and its hinged down one side, and opens and closes securely. A rare and desirable thing indeed, where else are you going to put your antique rings?!
The outer case is beautifully textured, and features a monogram... I wonder who this belonged to? What I do know is this, the makers marks show "CF FS", for Cornelius Desmoreaux Saunders & Francis Hollings Shepherd. Founded in London in 1869, they specialised in mourning jewellery made from Whitby jet. By around the year 1880, they advertised as “manufacturers in gold and standard silver of brooches, earrings, chains, swivels, lockets and necklets, pendants, solitaires, studs and charms.” In 1889 they became the licensees for the American firm of Krementz, in which they also invented the first self-closing bracelet!
