DATE: Victorian, c.1880

A gorgeous antique pendant modelled as an olive branch, with rose cut diamond 'leaves' and natural pearl 'olives'. It's crafted in 18k yellow gold and dates from the Victorian period, circa 1880. As a universal symbol of peace, the Olive Tree can reach the age of 2,000 years old, and can regrow, even after being burned. Though its branches are light, they are strong enough to symbolize unity, and forgiveness across multiple cultures. 

The ancient Greeks believed the olive branch represented plenty, and drove away evil spirits. It was also one of the attributes of Eirene, the Greek Goddess of peace. Another goddess in Greek mythology, Athene, gave an olive tree to the people of Athens, who showed their gratitude by naming their city after her.
