Mid-Victorian Enamel Cross "Poison Ring"
$4,000.00
Description
DATE: Mid Victorian, c.1860
Incredible 19th century "poison ring" dating from the mid Victorian period, circa 1860. The signet ring face features a white cloud of enamel, with a black lobed cross at the centre and intricate engraving around the edges. The whole face is hinged down one side, opening to reveal a secret compartment for storage of... well, whatever you like really. Poisons, potions, powders, etc. It's crafted in 18 karat gold with French owl import marks suggesting it was made in England before being retailed in France. The craftsmanship is exceptional, and it remains in excellent antique condition.
