1920's Poseidon Reverse Carved Intaglio Ring

This wonderful antique ring is set with a lovely reverse carved purple glass intaglio, depicting the Greek God Poseidon. Poseidon, aka Neptune to the Romans, was the ancient god of the Sea and other waters, earthquakes, and horses. He was one of the Twelve Olympians, and is most often depicted holding a three-pronged Trident. His origins can be traced back as far as the Bronze age, with the name appearing in Mycenaean Linear B inscriptions. Crafted in 9k yellow gold and dates from the 1920's.
