Description
DATE: Arts & Crafts, c.1900
An exciting multi-gem antique pendant and chain, attributed to the jewellery designer Dorrie Nossiter. She was an Arts and Crafts jewellery maker/designer known for her nature inspired jewellery. Born in 1893 in Birmingham, she attended the Municipal School of Art from 1910-1914. She studied drawing with a focus on drawing plant form and after this she and her family moved to Dorset where she was inspired by the colours and shapes in her garden. Nossiter then moved to London where she created most of her work.
The pendant is crafted from silver and 18k gold, set with the most lovely array of gemstones. A fantastic 2.5 carat natural blue sapphire rests at the bottom of the wreath shaped pendant, displaying a gorgeous cornflower blue colour, and it's surrounded by tourmaline, moonstones, chrysoprase and sapphire and chalcedony cabochons. The colour combination of the stone is gorgeous, and small silver and gold pommels and leaf motifs surround the stones, giving a real sense of the nature inspired jewellery made by Dorrie Nossiter. The pendant drops from a cluster of gemstones which hangs from a 18k gold and silver chain, fastening with a t-bar clasp with a wearable length of 19.3 inches.
