Georgian "Tho Lost To Sight, To Memory Dear" Seal Fob
Georgian "Tho Lost To Sight, To Memory Dear" Seal Fob
$750.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1780
An extremely charming antique seal fob set with a glass base and intaglio carved. It reads "Tho Lost To Sight, To Memory Dear". I love this phrase, meaning even though someone is gone from your view, they remain remembered and truly cherished in your heart. A gorgeous piece of mourning jewellery, and its modelled in pinchbeck. It features lovely floral engraving and it dates from the Georgian period, circa 1780.
After doing some research, I found a poem written by Ruthven Jenkyns- "Though Lost To Sight, To Memory Dear". The poem was published in the Greenwich Magazine for Marines in 1700's. Please see the images for the poem!
