Egyptian Revival Carved Cat's Eye & Enamel Pharaoh Charm

$1,000.00

Description

DATE: Egyptian Revival, c.1920

The Egyptian Revival era of jewellery took place during the Art Deco period, when  Tutankhamun's Tomb was discovered. This piece is modelled as a pharaoh, and the face is a single piece of carved cats eye, finished with lovely blue and white enamel details. To the back, a small engraved pyramid features a small urn with a gorgeously detailed border the carries round to the front. Crafted in 14k gold throughout.

Cat's Eye (a type of chrysoberyl) displays the effect of a sharp bright line through the middle of the stone, especially when it's hit by a light source. Also known as cymophane, which derives from two Greek words meaning 'wave' and 'appearance'.
