Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1830
"Reason Contents Me"... A motto which could be viewed as self reliance and contentment, that you're happy with your own reasoning and judgement. This motto is intaglio carved into a large oval carnelian panel. It mounted in yellow gold, with wings as an emblem of protection and a family crest. After a little research, I've found this belongs to the Graham family, a habitational surname linking to a town in Lincolnshire. This was recorded in the Domesday Book, the earliest public record, twenty years after the Norman Conquest. Originally this was seal, the intaglio large in size, spreading right across your finger! Dates to the Georgian period, circa 1830.
