DATE: Victorian, c.1880

Unusual antique locket in the form of a barrel with the words FINE OLD XXXX. My first thought was a whisky barrel (on account of the fine old...) but on further reflection I'm guessing it's more likely wine (or even beer/port/another four lettered alcoholic beverage). Whatever your personal preference of poison, it's a wonderful little thing - crafted in 9k gold with red and turquoise enamel hoops and (bizarrely) the N in FINE is reversed. Dating from the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1880.
