Victorian "Hope Faith & Charity" Pearl Crescent Brooch
Victorian "Hope Faith & Charity" Pearl Crescent Brooch
$275.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1890
A wonderful antique crescent brooch with the Hope Faith & Charity motif to the centre. It's crafted in 9 karat gold throughout, and set with four pearls in cute star settings. It was made in England in the late Victorian era, circa 1890. The anchor, cross, and heart motifs together represent three pillars of the Christian faith: Hope, Faith, and Charity, respectively. A popular theme throughout the 19th Century, it's not often paired with the crescent - however, since the 15th Century, Roman Catholic imagery sometimes depicts the Madonna standing on a crescent moon.
