DATE: Antique, c. 1780
An incredible antique crucifix pendant dating from the Georgian period. Its of European origin, and the cross is modelled in silver throughout, displaying the crucifixion of Jesus, and to the back, Madonna with child. To the top of the crucifix it features the initialism INRI, which represents the Latin inscription: IESVS NAZARENVS REX IVDÆORVM, or "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews" (John 19:19). John 19:20 states that this was written in three languages–Hebrew, Latin and Greek–and was put on the cross of Jesus. It remains in lovely condition with fine antique patina.
