Victorian Oversized Anchor Brooch
Victorian Oversized Anchor Brooch
$750.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1860
A fantastic oversized silver anchor brooch dating from the mid Victorian period, circa 1860. It's intricately hand-chased with geometric, foliate, and other abstract motifs, and crafted in sterling silver. The rope coiled around it makes it what's known as a "fouled anchor", foul being a nautical term meaning to entangle or entwine, so an anchor is said to be "fouled" if it becomes caught up in rope, or snagged on the seafloor.
