Victorian Scottish Crescent Moon & Star Brooch
Victorian Scottish Crescent Moon & Star Brooch
$300.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1870
Striking antique brooch made in Scotland during the latter half of the 19th century. It's round form features a crescent moon with six-pointed star nestled in the middle, and the silverwork is both intricately hand-engraved and inlayed with a banded form of agate known as Montrose Lace. The centre of the star is home to a vivid Cairngorm citrine, yellowish orange in colour. A particularly fine example of the style, showcasing both the expert craftsmanship of 19th century Scottish jewellers (it was likely made in Edinburgh) as well as the beautiful stones found by avid gemhunters (who remain active in the hills and glens to this day).
