Victorian OMC Diamond & Natural Pearl "Toi et Moi" Ring
Victorian OMC Diamond & Natural Pearl "Toi et Moi" Ring
$6,250.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1900
A stunning antique Art Nouveau "toi et moi" engagement ring dating from the turn of the 20th century. It's French, crafted in 18 karat rose gold and platinum, and set with an alluring duo of gemstones: a natural saltwater pearl (certified) with the most gorgeous silky lustre, alongside a cushion shape 1.32ct old mine cut diamond. It features elegant semi-crossover shoulders, set with rose cut diamond accents and each one ending with a larger, bezel set rose cut. The band is reeded, and crafted in 18 karat rose gold.
This kind of two-stone style is commonly referred to as "Toi et Moi" (you and me), and had something of a resurgence in the early 20th Century after it was popularised a century earlier by Napoleon when he proposed to Josephine with a pear cut sapphire and diamond example (the same theme as this one, however stylistically quite different - both are very much 'of their time'). A fitting and suitably romantically charged theme for an engagement ring.
