Victorian Cat’s-Eye Chrysoberyl & Diamond Cluster Ring
Victorian Cat’s-Eye Chrysoberyl & Diamond Cluster Ring
$2,150.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1880
This striking antique ring is set with a gorgeous combination of stones- Cat’s-eye chrysoberyl and old mine cut diamonds- in a flower cluster shape. Cat's Eye (a type of chrysoberyl) displays chatoyance, the effect whereby a sharp bright line forms through the middle of the stone when it's hit by a light source. Also known as cymophane, which derives from two Greek words meaning 'wave' and 'appearance'. It looks pretty magical... Its surrounded by a halo of sparkling old mine cut diamonds, with further stones at each shoulder too. Its crafted in 18 karat gold throughout, and dates to the Victorian period, circa 1880.
