Edwardian Diamond Platinum Pocket Watch by Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co
$2,000.00
Description
DATE: Edwardian, c.1910
An utterly stunning and rare pocket watch by Bailey, Banks & Biddle. It's modelled in platinum and set with rose cut diamonds throughout. The main stone rests in the centre, with floral rose cut diamond motifs dancing around it. With a fine smoky blue guilloché enamel border that shows through the floral millegrain diamond details. The back features a black dial marked SWISS with the Bailey, Banks & Biddle marks, and it remains in fantastic (and working) condition. Dates from the Edwardian period, circa 1910. We love this pocket watch so much, it looks great worn on a chain!
Bailey & Kitchen, as it was originally known, was founded in Philadelphia, on September 20, 1832. The firm sold fashionable jewellery as well as silverware, platinum and precious pieces. In 1846, Joseph Bailey (one of the original owners) invited his brother into the business and in 1878, Joseph’s son made a partnership with two other jewellers: George Banks and Samuel Biddle. The result of this was Bailey, Banks, and Biddle. The business offered high-quality jewellery and were even commissioned to design the first 40,000 Purple Hearts for the United States military.
