Late Victorian Cowrie Shell Ring
Late Victorian Cowrie Shell Ring
$1,700.00
Description
DATE: Late Victorian, c.1900
Unusual late Victorian ring set with an especially attractive sea shell. I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) it to be a deer spotted cowrie, from the family of marine gastropod mollusks in the family Cypraeidae. It's mounted in 9 karat gold with pear/teardrop shaped head and split shoulder shank; dating from the turn of the 20th century.
