Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1750
A fine and rare Chelsea porcelain seal fob, made in England during the 18th century circa 1750. This particular piece features an enamelled cupid sitting on a pedestal with a bow and arrow in it's hands. With the words "Je Tire Au Coeur", loosely translating to "I tug at the heart". The base, a panel of carnelian agate intaglio carved with the words "Tout Pour Vous", meaning "all for you". Quite sweet really, with Cupid, the Roman god of love, known for having a bow from which he shoots arrows. Cupid's arrows have the power to make people fall in love.
It displays the pale colouring and high detail typical of the Chelsea factory. With detailed and colourful enamel work throughout and original bail.
