DATE: Georgian, c.1780
This charming fob dates from the Georgian period, circa 1780 and set with a chalcedony intaglio seal depicting a cherub and heart with the words "Tout Ou Rien". This translates from French to to "All or Nothing", a lovely expression- you can have all my love or nothing at all... The body features an open interior and is crafted in 15k yellow gold throughout. Cherubs or angels were often used in antique jewellery, as symbols of innocence and spirituality but also seen as Cupid. Known to the Greeks as Eros, the handsome god of love.
