Georgian Emerald & Diamond Pansy Ring
Georgian Emerald & Diamond Pansy Ring
$1,100.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1830
The sweetest little Georgian pansy ring dating from the mid 19th century, circa 1830. Nestled between florid rococo-style shoulders, the five "petals" are set with emeralds, with diamond centre and shoulder accents. It's crafted in 15 karat gold and remains in great antique condition, having acquired a gorgeous gold patina.
The name “pansy” derives from the French pensée (meaning thought), and was incorporated into Late Middle English as a name for violas (the flower) in the mid 1400s. These flowers werw thus regarded as a symbol of remembrance, representing “love in idleness” to evoke the image of a lover who can focus on nothing but the thought of her/his beloved.
