Georgian Pearl & Emerald Pansy Fede Ring
Georgian Pearl & Emerald Pansy Fede Ring
$2,800.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1830
Superb Georgian Fede ring dating from the early 19th century, circa 1830. Two gloved hands, beautifully cuffed and textured, hold between them a pansy set with natural pearls and an emerald centre. The pansy, during the 18th and 19th centuries, symbolised memory or remembrance (from the French pensée, or "thought") so here, amid the wave of 19th century sentimentality, represents: "Thinking of You...". Thus, the ring would likely have been gifted as a token of affection. It's crafted i15 karat gold, with hidden locket compartment behind the flower, designed so the contents are worn close against the finger.
